Why Give?

Help us change the odds by supporting the 2024 Annual Campaign. November 2024 to January 2025.

Education

MKM is committed to educating the people of Greater Cincinnati, by:

  • Hosting School & Youth Education Programs to teach sun and skin safety.
  • New partnership with Girl Scouts USA, creating a Sun Safety Badge Program.
  • Providing free information and resources for the community.
  • Hosting outreach at Community and Corporate Health Fairs, Workout on the Green at Washington & Ziegler Park and more.
  • Sponsor the MKM Booth at the Flying Pig P & G Health & Fitness Expo.

Awareness

MKM is committed to bringing awareness to the people of Greater Cincinnati, by:

  • Hosting Melanoma Awareness programs.
  • Partnering with local media for community awareness.
  • Promoting awareness at friend and fundraising events, like the Flying Pig, the Susan Roebuck Memorial Golf Outing, Music for Melanoma and more.
  • Creating a new collaboration with KAO USA Inc. and Happy Sunday SPF Brand.
  • Providing a new volunteer opportunity to staff MKM Beverage Booth at the Taste of Cincinnati working with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.

Prevention

MKM is committed to prevention, by:

  • Hosting monthly FREE skin cancer screening clinics in partnership with area hospitals and dermatologists.
  • Deploying sunscreen stations in partnership with SwimSafe Pools for area pools and parks.
  • Provide free sunscreen at 3CDC’s Court Street Plaza, Washington Park and Ziegler Park.
  • Providing volunteer opportunities to distribute and promote the use of sunscreen.

Patient Support

MKM is committed to supporting those diagnosed, by:

  • Partnering with the medical community to offer resources on treatment options.
  • Aid with appointment scheduling for patients with suspected melanoma, screened at an MKM Clinic.
  • Partnering with the Cincinnati Cancer Consortium to work with other cancer nonprofits to better support patients.

Research

MKM is committed to funding research, by:

  • Co-chairing the Skin Cancer & UV Exposure Prevention Work Group of the Ohio Partners for Cancer Control of the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Presenting an annual research grant to a recipient focusing their research on melanoma.
  • Creating the MKM Melanoma Research Fund.
  • Increasing opportunities for a cure for this deadly disease through work with leading melanoma and cancer research organizations.

Then consider making a gift to Melanoma Know More. November kicks off our Annual Appeal, with the 2024 Campaign.

Through your financial support, we can work together toward a vision of a world free from the threat of melanoma. With your gifts we were able to:

  • Provide our monthly free skin cancer screening clinics at area hospitals, adding a Dayton clinic and a new dedicated “First Responders” clinic.
  • Continue the program partnership with Swim Safe Pool Management to deploy “sponsored “station dispensers providing free sunscreen at area pools.
  • During Melanoma Awareness Month in May, provide information to the community through events, programs, health fairs and media.
  • Promote prevention at our MKM booth at the Flying Pig Health & Fitness Expo.
  • Staff our first MKM Beverage Booth at the Taste of Cincinnati.
  • Start a new partnership with Girls Scouts USA to create the free Sun Safety Badge Program and support scouts summer camp education.
  • Provide education and free sunscreen for the community at Washington Park, Ziegler Park Pool and Court Street Plaza in partnership with 3CDC.
  • Join forces and host the 4th annual Susan Roebuck Memorial Golf Outing
  • Host the 2024 Music for Melanoma Celebration Gala, to honor our service to the community.
  • Present the Greater Cincinnati Melanoma Community Award to William Hoppenjans, MD, Scott Neltner, MD and Mark Zalla, MD.
  • Join in supporting the Best of Oncology ASCO Direct Conference.

As this year draws to a close, we look forward to both renewed and new efforts for collaboration with the medical community to educate about the risks of melanoma and to support those with a melanoma diagnosis. For 2025, our plans include:

  • Skin Cancer Screening Clinics:
    • Continue to provide monthly free skin cancer screening clinics in collaboration with area hospitals and dermatology practices.
    • Add targeted clinics for Fire Fighters in the spring and for First Responders in the fall.
  • Melanoma Awareness Month:
    • Host a team at the 27th Annual Flying Pig & an MKM Booth at the Health & Fitness Expo.
    • Host the 5th Annual Susan Roebuck Memorial Golf Outing.
    • Expand the sunscreen station program distribution with SwimSafe to add additional pools.
    • Add a new program designed for Golf Courses.
    • Host an MKM Beverage Booth at the Taste of Cincinnati.
    • Outreach through media events during May.
  • Community Outreach:
    • Continue to support partnership with 3CDC at Washington & Ziegler Park and Court Street Plaza.
    • Support additional health and wellness fairs.
    • Offer more opportunities for volunteer engagement.
    • Host the 2025 Music for Melanoma Gala.
  • Education:
    • Expand our scouting badge education program to include Scouting USA.
    • Lauch our new “Ounce of Prevention” Club.
    • Explore new venues for education and community outreach.
  • Patient Support & Research:
    • Explore options for a new pilot program with DermaSensor to collaborate with the medical community to provide more options for detection.
    • Fully fund the MKM Melanoma Research Fund at $100,000 in order to award an annual medical research grant.
