Dr. Darrell S. Rigel spoke at the American Academy of Dermatology’s Summer Academy meeting about the increase in the numbers of young white women being diagnosed with melanoma. He points to pressure to be tan for the prom on 17-18 yr olds. His patients have largely used tanning beds in their teens and the  latency period from the time of intensified exposure to the appearance of melanoma is 5-20 years, he said.
